Final idea
Choco-Pepperoni-Chip Cookie: My final cookie design was a drastic change on a classic cookie. I crafted my cookie by mixing a standard batch of chocolate chip cookies then before putting it in the oven, I placed a pepperoni in the middle. I think this new cookie is creative because of the unusual pairing of pepperoni and chocolate. I found that the salty/savory of the pepperoni mixed well with the sweet rich chocolate and actually made an unusual, delicious cookie.

Recipe
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (113 g) butter
- 1/2 cup (99 g) granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup (54 g) brown sugar packed
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- 1 3/4 cups (210 g) all-purpose flour*
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 cup (170 g) semisweet chocolate chips
- 12 Pepperonis
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 F.
Microwave the butter for about 40 seconds. Butter should be completely melted but shouldn’t be hot.
In a large bowl, mix butter with the sugars until well-combined.
Stir in vanilla and egg until incorporated.
Add the flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix until just combined. Dough should be soft and a little sticky but not overly sticky.
Stir in chocolate chips.
Scoop out 1.5 tablespoons of dough (medium cookie scoop) and place on baking sheet.
Place pepperoni in center of each scoop of dough and spread dough over top.
Bake for 11 minutes, or until cookies are set.
Idea Generation
My idea generation process involved opening my sketchbook in my room and trying to think about ideas that would be creative but still taste good. I thought mostly about other foods that have never been done in a cookie before. I later asked for ideas from friends and a couple family members.

Idea Test 1
For my first idea test, I placed a cookie down on the baking sheet, then placed a pepperoni on top, then another cookie on top of that. I found that this made giant cookies which had a poor ratio of pepperoni to chocolate.

Idea Test 2
For my second test, I attempted to make a hot dog shaped cookie. I found other hot dog shaped cookies online but none of them had flavor. I used raspberry jam and cookie dough to make the meat part of the hot dog but the flavor ended up much darker than I intended. I learned when combining two different cookie parts, you have to work quickly before the cookie gets hard and is no longer supple.

Iteration
The only change I thought necessary to make was to make my cookies smaller. As stated earlier in this blog under Idea Test 1, I combined two cookies to encompass the pepperoni which resulted in a very large cookie with a single pepperoni inside. When making my final, I spread the dough out thinner to make enough space for the pepperoni while also not using too much dough. I found that this iteration allowed for a much better proportion of pepperoni compared to chocolate resulting in a better taste throughout the entirety of the cookie.
