Computer Scientist In The Making Wins Inaugural #SOTM

When searching for a high school student who excels in all things STEM, it’s very difficult to look past Yasmeen, the winner of the inaugural Goodwall Student of the Month competition.

From what began with building simple structures with legos at age 8, turned into a series of incredible achievements, each one seemingly more impressive than the last. Interning at NASA, winner of multiple robotics competitions, created and coded her own website (that won an award too!) are just a few of her outstanding accomplishments. As if her excellence in the field alone wasn’t enough to make her a deserving winner, Yasmeen also finds time to practice kickboxing, jiu jitsu, and fencing.

Yasmeen was initially drawn to Goodwall’s modern design where she felt it was a great place to tell her story. The more she used the app, the larger her network of students around the world became. She was suddenly able to learn about life outside of the United States by connecting with other members of the community and hearing their stories. Her role as a Goodwall Ambassador further enhanced her experience as it allowed her to become part of a group students who were enthusiastic about sharing the app they love.

The future looks bright for Yasmeen, who has sky-high ambitions of creating a company after graduating from university with a degree in either computer science or aerospace engineering. The $1000 dollar scholarship will go towards funding her studies in higher education. In the short-term she hopes to find a summer internship in either tech or engineering. We ask all our winners if they want to leave a message for new Goodwall users, she said: “Don’t be afraid to go for things, you have nothing to lose by trying.” Congratulations Yasmeen, we wish you all the best!
