When I used to hear the term the needy, I used to view it as someone in poverty. My recent interaction with Steve Down in Africa and Kenya in particular has taught me otherwise. Kenya is a rich nation, full of naturally occurring mineral resources yet a good percentage of its citizens cannot afford a dollar a day. This means that this percentage are unable to feed themselves and the people they are tasked to take care of.

One significant line of difference between Africa and the United States of America is that there is a huge gap between the rich and the poor. The rich get richer while the poor keeps getting poorer. This sad reality has majorly been created by the virtue of unequal distribution of resources in most of these countries.

Steve Down has for a long time actively engaged in activities aimed at changing the current status quo of poverty in Africa and making Africa a better place especially for its natives. As such, he has launched a number of projects in different corners in Africa. Something unique about these projects is that they are aimed at empowering the needy to become self-reliable rather than depending on others for their survival.

Financially Fit, an organization founded by Steve Down aims at empowering the young, needy, youths, women as well as men in different countries in Africa by first of all giving them the business knowledge then helping them start their own businesses and advising them through management until they are able to completely stand on their own.

Different communities has so far benefited from such projects ranging from business summits, book donations, financial support and many other projects. Steve believes that knowledge is power in empowering the needy. He encourages the youth and women to move away from depending on political leaders and the government (inasmuch as they are important) to starting to engage themselves on real issues facing them.
