You probably have heard it said that health is wealth but did you know that wealth is health? This is nothing far from what Steve Down, one of the world’s top entrepreneurs and founder of Financially Fit Africa talks about.

One of the ancient Greek physicians once said that when health is absent, health becomes useless. Steve Down, on the other hand, tells us that inasmuch as health is equated to wealth, wealth plays a vital role to one’s health. In one of his books, Financially Fit Africa, Steve Down speaks so much of not only keeping spiritually, mentally and physically fit but also financially fit.

According to Steve Down, the condition of your own health and wealth can be reviewed, analyzed and revised with a three-pronged approach. First, have your health and wealth assessed annually, at least, by experts. Second, ensure that you have the right professional offering the advice to you. And third, take action based on the advice you receive. This third point is arguably the most critical.

The basics for having a great health and a healthy lifestyle, as known by many including myself is that you cannot afford an apple a day when you are struggling to make both ends meet financially. Going to the gym becomes a luxury instead of a necessity when financial fitness is out of the equation and the effect of not keeping fit is clear in the long run.

In one of his books, Steve Down shares a story of his life before he became financially fit. In the story, he explains how he was already married and with seven children yet could not adequately provide for his family. It is at this time that he also developed pneumonia, a health situation. Asking him today when he last fell sick, he will tell you he does not remember. This is how important wealth can be to a person’s health and why financial fitness is important for everyone.

The journey to financial fitness begins now and with baby steps. There is no reason why you cannot make it in life financially.
