By Natalie Fagundo

Much like a pod of whales or a pack of wolves, did you know that a group of gorillas is called a band? In this blog series, we’re going to introduce you to members of our band — engineers, technical recruiters, PMs, designers, and more who make up the most important asset in Gorilla Logic…our talent! Are you Gorilla material? Join the band today!

Tess Manderson

Tess is the VP of Global Talent Operations and Human Resources at Gorilla Logic. She works closely with both hiring managers and job seekers in order to create an optimal and positive experience for everyone. When not driving recruiting efforts and supporting our internal Gorilla talent, you’ll find Tess outdoors hiking in the mountains or traveling to her favorite places.

Where’s your hometown? — Kennebec, South Dakota — population of 250 people!

Favorite place you’ve traveled to? — Italy: Cinque Terra, Tuscany or Florence.

How many years have you worked in your field? — Ten years.

How do you spend your free time? — Hiking, trail running, skiing, yoga, and hanging with Buzzie, my English bulldog.

What is your guilty pleasure TV show? — Game of Thrones.

Where do you go to relax and recharge? — The beach would be #1, but the mountains are a close 2nd.

Who are the biggest cheerleaders in your life? — My husband and my mom.

Best advice when heading into an interview? — Over prepare: study the company, run through practice interview questions with a friend, write down questions you can ask in the interview, understand dress code expectations for the interview, bring copies of your resume & portfolio, ask about direction & parking beforehand, etc!

What motivated you to pursue working in your current field? — I’ve always been interested in technology. My dad is a farmer who is a self-taught techie. I grew up watching the Sci-Fi channel & reading his WIRED magazine. However, my strengths were always a better match for the people side of business, so I figured out how to do that within IT!

What qualities make someone successful in the tech world? — Curiosity, motivation to always be learning, and follow through.
