Prognosis!

First, to catch up on the last two days of activities.

Tuesday the family went up to Vail Lake to recon the Kenda Cup course. We did an easy lap for familiarization and it looks like the kid is up for the Junior Men 13–14 XC race. That’s exciting! Overall, I got an hour and a half in goofing around on the XC bike.

Yesterday we hit up GlideTC for the weekly workout. Lots of upper body — shoulders, pushups. Feeling it a bit this morning. I got in an hour ride mid-afternoon, cruised around the neighborhood on the road bike.

But the big event of the day was seeing the orthopedic surgeon.

We went over the radiology report from my MRI. I had imaging on the same knee several years back (that resulted in no action needed), but it provided a useful comparison between two points in time. The bad news is that I have a torn lateral meniscus. The good news is that is explains the specific pain and issues I have been dealing with. The fix is to go in arthroscopically and clean up the damaged tissue. Another plus is that I should be offline for only a week and then can get back at it full force. That’s the most encouraging part of the entire prognosis!

One bummer is that I will likely need to set aside future long distance and trail running. I’ll know more about this post-surgery.

Now I await insurance pre-approval and to schedule the surgery — all that should be figured out within the next week or so.
