#windowsfail: remote desktop connection domain prefix

So, Windows 10 attempts to be helpful when using the Remote Desktop Connection app. It inserts the domain as a prefix to the username at the other end.

This means that, say, a username “MyHappyUser” is transmitted as “MyComputerDomain\MyHappyUser”. And if the remote computer isn’t on that domain (the same network in other words), the login fails.

The way to fix is to accept the initial settings and just get a connection.

Then when you get the “Password Incorrect” error variation, click *OK* then re-enter the username as:

.\MyHappyUser

the dot forces the login to be on the local machine rather than a domain password.
