Auntie Em’s Words of Wisdom volume 2

Written by Auntie Em for Love Letter e-zine

Auntie Em is a bitter old lolita of days gone by. She swears the community has gone to pot since Livejournal died a death but here she is, still here, salting up the place. But, no one can deny that Auntie Em is a font of sage knowledge and advice…kinda

Dear Auntie Em,
I shelled out all my money on a Triple Fortune bonnet, because they’re so beautiful, but all the rest of my wardrobe is very yume kawaii kind of Sweet Lolita. My clothes are pink and the bonnet is pink, so at least they match, but will I be called an ita for wearing my 3F bonnet with my AP x Sanrio collaboration dresses? Can you mix two such different styles without committing a Lolita fashion crime? Help!
Yume Lolita

Dear Yume Lolita,

I gotta be true, Mana is always watching, always judging. So, in a word, no. In more words, sometimes items from different substyles can mix and match, what you are suggesting is just a no, no, no, no, no, no!

You said it yourself, you shelled out all your money on a Triple Fortune bonnet, so maybe wait until your wardrobe is less supa kawaii so that the bonnet compliments your coordinate. All of the AP x Sanrio dresses are super sweet and sometimes shorter than average. The two styles will jar, unless you really, really, class up the dress, but it’s gonna be tough and sometimes, if you have to ask, then the answer is you’re not there yet.

If you wear it, fine, it’s your clothes, do what you want, but remember sweet Yume, Mana sees all…

Regards,

Auntie Em

Dear Auntie Em,

I’m in the lolita updates group on Facebook and boy, I love it. So many releases, so many pretties! There are some dresses I like that are for sale on Taobao. I follow the posts but I just don’t understand — I click on the link and nothing is in English. How can I buy?

Please help

Hopeless

Dear Hopeless,

Did you even try?

Please remember, we have to send questions to Auntie Em on a carrier pigeon because she lives deep in the forest, on the top of a mountain and subsists by growing her own strawberries. So if you have any questions for her, please leave a comment or send us an email!

Please do not attempt to send your own postal birds, as they will not know where to go.
