My Summer Internship at GovPilot

“In a world of scarce resources, globalization without new technology is unsustainable.” –Peter Thiel in Zero to One.
In the Fall of 2015, I enrolled in Entrepreneurship 407, an hour long speaker-series course at the University of Michigan. During this semester, I listened to high-class entrepreneurs and venture capitalists speak about the best accomplishments and worst failures they experienced while running a start-up company. If there was one thing I absorbed from this course, it was that you should look at different and new ways to develop your ideas, because the only thing constant in the start-up environment is change. As a constant learner, this class made me realize that the best junior year internship experience I could have for the summer would be at a start-up company.
After connecting with my step-brother’s best friend/fellow GovPilot employee Benny Taitel, my goal for the summer became a reality. At GovPilot, I helped the sales staff identify potential customers suitable for the software, mass uploaded their contact information into SalesForce, and created mass email campaigns. From a marketing standpoint, I have sat in on meetings and helped create different strategies on how the startup can maximize its web traffic. Overall, throughout my 13.5 weeks at GovPilot, I felt I was able to add value into the small company and my efforts did not go unnoticed.
But besides the job itself, my co-workers and boss have been incredible. Everyone is open and friendly, which allows for a comfortable work environment. Prior to this summer, I had actually never been to Hoboken (even though I am originally from Northern New Jersey). Looking back, I’m glad I decided to venture out of the bubble. GovPilot offers an engaging entrepreneurial culture where you have the opportunity to grow and engage in meaningful work. Thank you to GovPilot CEO, Michael Bonner, and all of my co-workers for making this summer meaningful for me. Peter Thiel was right — globalization without new technology is unsustainable. Eliminating paper processes and integrating digital automation is the future of local government .
