Good discussion. High-five to the author is a neat thought.
Any author’s goal is to be read. More readers attract serendipitous discoveries in the form of connections, conversations, clarifications, and distribution. From that perspective, it makes total sense to have some button as it reduces participatory friction and helps in curation. Recommend may not be the best term but it isn’t all that bad either.
Another observation I have is that most readers thank the author if the story is meaningful. Probably a thank you button could enhance participation from the readers and could be used as an additional signal for curation.
