Dear Kris,
May I add to your great post? Sometimes they want to love you. They really do, however they don’t know how. They are not bad, simply underequipped, like raw diamonds. Loving well is not “natural”, it requires wisdom, humility, knowledge, and grit.
It is 10 x more difficult to get your driver’s license than a marriage license while it is 10 x more difficult to learn what real love is, how to practice it day in and day out and get back on track when things go wrong than to drive. Driving is mostly technical, loving is a fine art in an ever changing environment. How’s that for a no security net tight rope act?
And since the only love school is family and 75 % of couples fail the test, the kids are left with poor examples to learn from… when they are lucky enough not to be traumatized by a narcissist who sees them as mere objects to fill his/her empty soul and will make them a new generation of narcissists and codependents.
The divorce rate shows the failure, letting things go as is without intervening is the real tragedy.
Thanks and all the best,
Pierre
