Genesis:In the Beginning

For years Americans have celebrated Black History Month as if black history began after slaves landed in the Western World on Mid Atlantic slave ships. We celebrate as though prior to the 15th century and Western influence, black culture and black heritage was primitive. Consequently, in an effort to provide a more accurate view of Black History, G & P Unlimited Company will present Black History from a Biblical perspective; as well as, a perspective established by earlier civilizations. The majority of what I will cover will hopefully lead us to greater discussion and research into Black Culture prior to colonization and slavery.

The Bible documents a little over 4,000 years of Black Culture. Because the Bible cannot be viewed as a chronological history book, we can suspect that for over 6,000 years, Africa stood as a beacon of light and the hub of knowledge, medicine, science, astronomy, art, architecture, religion, etc.,.

The Roman historian Pliny stated, “EX Africa Semper Aliguid Novi”. This is Latin for “Out of Africa, Come something Always New”. So what new came out of Africa? Very simply: Humanity. Unless, that is, you don’t believe in the Bible.

The Bible tells us that the Garden of Eden was located in Africa or in the land of Cush.

Genesis 2:8–14 reads:

8 Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. 9 The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground — trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.10 A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters. 11 The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 (The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin[a] and onyx are also there.) 13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush.[b] 14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Ashur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

The Land of Cush

Africa had several advanced civilizations, one being the Land of Cush. The Cushites People were of the earliest known Black African civilization. This can also include Egypt. The Cushite civilization occupied what is now the Sudan, Egypt, and Ethiopia.

The origin of the name Cush identified a people with having a dark countenance. In the Bible The Bible the prophet Jeremiah asks, “Can the Cushite/Ethiopian change his skin?”(Jeremiah 13:23). This suggests that the Cushites were known for being black. Therefore, all of humanity begins in a land of dark skinned people.

Celebrate Humanity by celebrating Black History. Know the truth and live Unlimited. #GPUNLTD
