SHADES OF GRACE: the gist of it

as someone who grew up alongside the first social media networks, i think a lot about how i portray myself online. as a graduate of the first cohort of the UGA emerging media masters program, i think a lot about how i am going use technology to help me make a living. shades of grace is a response to my anxieties about all of these swirling thoughts.

as young professionals we’re encouraged to identify ourselves (both digitally and in-person) as a unified, cohesive, ‘branded’ unit now more than ever. yes, this is slightly dehumanizing, but so are most aspects of late stage capitalism in a hyper-mediated world. whether you like it or not, self-branding has become increasingly necessary as attention spans get shorter and time spent online gets longer.

so, this is me™: shades of grace. i am a multifaceted human who actually despises ‘50 shades of grey’ (but maybe not for the reasons you think). i am always looking to deconstruct and appropriate things i see as problematic. (see: my work on the ‘kardashian media empire’, stereotypes, & blogging as a profession). i am interested in the internet, especially social media and memes, and helping others understand the best avenues for expressing themselves online. to those who solicit them, i offer services in content creation and curation as well as digital and social media strategy.

shades of grace: using my digital identity to think about, talk about, and help you with yours.
