Raise your hand if you’ve ever had a NO client?
Some can spot NO clients coming a mile away.
Others might be working with NO clients as we speak, but wouldn’t be able to pick them out of a line up.
For anyone who’s unsure about what exactly makes a NO client, let me break it down for you…
Typically speaking, NO clients:
- Require constant, 24-hour support via email (and get angry when you don’t immediately respond)
- Don’t share your business values and mission
- Don’t respect you or the pride you place in your work
- Try to undermine or cut you down
- Distract you from being able to help the people you can have a huge impact on
- Can make you feel disheartened and discouraged
- Don’t appreciate what you do and you usually feel like they’ll never be happy
In a nutshell… NO clients are the kinds of people who give you that uncomfortable, uneasy feeling in the pit of your stomach.
In case you’ve forgot what that feeling’s called… it’s your gut instinct.
Unfortunately, not all of us listen to and trust our gut instinct when it comes to business.
Fear, desperation, self-doubt, arrogance, stress, ignorance…
These are all things that effect our judgment and tell your gut instinct to pipe down when signing new contracts or engaging in new partnerships.
And trust me, I’ve been there.
Since being in business, I’ve dealt with 4 NO clients that stand out as lasting reminders to never sacrifice my integrity and reputation for money.
At the time, I felt deep down that these people would cost me my sanity (and money), but I just smiled and nodded as we signed on the dotted line.

Hindsight is a funny thing, right?
Looking back, I could kick myself for getting into relationships with these people.
But I let the need to say yes to everyone, and the desire to make heaps of money overshadow my common sense.
I get it though…
Sometimes when you’re really stretched and all you can think about is how the heck am I going to pay the bills this month, the idea of brining on a NO client doesn’t seem so harmless.
To financially be able to say no to NO clients, you need to be automated and have your business consistently generating and converting leads.
In my experience, NO clients suck the life and passion out of your business.
If you already have a well established business, the best case NO client scenario is your inbox gets flooded with unreasonable requests and youwaste a bucket load of your valuable time trying to appease them.
But if you’re a start-up business, having 1 or 2 NO clients could spell the end for you…
Because serving, maintaining and looking after these clients drags you away from growing your business.
Away from your existing clients who need and deserve your attention.
Away from your passion.
Away from the business you originally set out to create, and closer towards a place you don’t want to be in for the next 20 years.

Having a really solid sense of your own worth is key to being able to avoid these NO client minefields.
Also knowing what you stand for and against will help you identify when someone isn’t the right fit for you (and vice versa).
Thankfully, I’ve gotten to a place where I’m able to quickly and confidently identify when I shouldn’t be working with certain people.
Sometimes it can be something really small that sends off warning signals.
I once sent an email to my community of female entrepreneurs with the subject line ‘Hey you!’
Out of the hundreds of positive responses from the amazing women I work with, I received one negative reply from a woman who took offence to the informality of my email copy.
Which by the way, is 100% ok.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion… and this is where the beauty ofbeing able to say no to someone who doesn’t quite align with your valuescomes in.
From this reply, I could clearly see that this woman and I would not be a good fit for each other.
And it had nothing at all to do with her…
It had everything to do with me and what I want my business to be.
I consider all of the female entrepreneurs in my community to friends, so that’s how I communicate with them!
And not everyone is comfortable with that style of conversation, but it’s all good because there are others out there who will be the perfect fit for that lovely lady!
In the beginning, it was really hard for me to accept that I couldn’t help and serve everyone.
But that’s what it really comes down to…

It’s not you…
YOU are loveable and intelligent with so many gifts and talents to share with the world.
YOU also have the right to cut loose anyone in your life and business who doesn’t align with what you’ve got going on.
Ok, rant officially over haha!
Long story short — NO clients are more trouble and heartache than they’re worth, so save yourself the stress and dedicate your time to growing your business, and helping those you can!
