Judge the book by its cover!

Contrary to popular belief, here’s why you should definitely judge this book by it’s cover — and no I’m not kidding, I’m dead serious.

A lot of book lovers will discourage you from this judgemental kind of thought on a book and I do too — but not this book in particular.

I know that sounds crazy but hear me out. When this year started, I thought I wanted to read ‘ How to get rich doing this…’ kinda books but I could hardly finish a chapter. This is because I felt like life doesn’t have a copy paste mechanism on the different challenges we face in life and even when it feels like it, the levels that are unlocked are quite different.

I went to get one of those books and the guy selling them looked at me and gave me an array of options on which books I’d most definitely enjoy. I had come looking for a book I had been recommended to by a friend at the time but long story short, I ended up with 'Battlefield of the mind' by Joyce Meyer .

Believe me, I had prayed for guidance as I listed my goal plans to God and part of me wanted Him to lead me into the season of life 2019 would be and behold, Finance and wealth creation it was. I however didn’t understand why He led me into this book while I expected the How-to kind of books. And to be truly honest, 2019 was about Battlefield of the mind and The Richest Man in Babylon.

Hilarious, right? When I opened the first page of the book, I prayed and asked God to do what He rightfully does with me and the books He led me into. Day by day, I purposed to read every chapter like a devotion and internalize what the chapter spoke to me about. I felt pushed to Kick-start my day with the book at 5am then order the activities of the day afterwards.

I began to understand what God was doing to me. The journey to financial victory and wealth creation had to start with my mind. The Battle of consistency and all the principles of the finances and wealth creation would be reinforced by the foundations I lay in my mind especially the conditioning. I had to walk out my earthly reasoning to be at par with God’s plan for my life and everything I desired in line with His purpose would gradually fit in the puzzle.

So here I was, unknown to me what God was doing but nevertheless, I kept going, I kept trusting and I felt reassured. All I can say is that everything eventually is working out and making sense and I’d be lying if I said I knew I’d where I am today but every single box I ticked this year, has been a constant reminder of His goodness, that He got me!

I have felt like a hand carried me through the ups and downs safely and assured. So yes, I agree with the saying that good books feel so short but the immense lessons are carried in our hearts forever. And at this point I can imagine you are wondering what the correlation between the title of this article is and the story, well here it is…

Judge the book by its cover!

This particular book I must emphasize. This is because, the cover of this book expresses our mind space similar to how the game of chess is played. And yes, you may as well know how hard learning and playing chess is ( I’m still an amateur in the game btw) but the invaluable lessons are worth it.

So I like to think of myself on one side and God on the other (with all my inferiority but I think of our relationship from a friendship point of view), silently making moves and definitely taking the wins because I underestimate Him every time but He supersedes my expectations. The thought of trusting a friend who you think of a rival every time things don’t go your way is the same way I think of God on the other side but I have gradually let myself understand that we are on the same team and He has my best interest at heart.

So guess what?

The cover of this book is just as good as the chapters in there, so rightfully and certainly judge it!

I hope it’s as impactful to you as it has been to me and I intend to make it my every year must read to see what God has in store for me.
