A Selfie Is Not Narcissistic

I felt guilty posting my selfies on social media platforms because I thought it was a narcissistic act. The trait that most millennials are accused of. Narcissism is not a label to which I want to hold on to. I grew up to a world where the computers and the internet were already there. But not social media. In a world where everyone is shouting – look at me!, how can we let the quiet ones talk in their own way?

Social media, although I know how to use it, the culture of it was something I had to get used to. Now, I don’t think posting a selfie is narcissistic at all. I think it’s a way of self-expression. Picturing a shout inside your head to the world – hi! I’m here! – is not narcissistic.

Now I’m not a model and I don’t mind my double chins or not skinny body on pictures. But as a girl living in London, obviously I’d wish I look more Instagram appropriate. But there’s no instagram appropriate, there is the only appropriate you should aim – you. I’m not here to show-off, I only want you to look at me like I look at me. Is that too narcissistic? I don’t think so. It’s a right. #shamelessselfexpression
