Should Designers Code?
Alan Cooper

So back in another life and bubble I was a flash dev and at the last (failed) company also the head of both the art department and the monkey room.

My job, more than actually making stuff was to maintain “fluidity” between the departments. Meaning that the artists were creating confomant assets and that the code framework that the artists had to conform to was sane.

It looked great in theory.

a personal stand point, I love that I know my way around a handful of languages from JS to C++ at the same time as PShop/Illustrator (now Inkscape and Gimp) are like extensions of my left arm. My heart straddles the two disciplines and I love that it does.

How that actually translates into something universally useful in this tech scene, I’m still not sure.
