A doctor friend recently tried to minimize the pain of a 29-year-old boy alcoholic as he died slowly from acute cirrhosis of the liver, after years of drinking vodka. It was no fairy tale expiration. His bloated, yellowed body and face were virtually unrecognizable to his grieving family.
