I can only agree with your excellent observations here Tom.
When I switched to physical media, i.e. writing for printed books, it was a totally different experience from writing for online.
Digital is ephemeral, physical lasts.
Much of what is written online will eventually disappear as corporations close, server bills aren’t paid, Medium sells out etc.
We also live in a media hierarchy where writing a book is often regarded as higher status than writing a blog. But also when I wrote & participated in the design & illustration of my last book the user experience was, as a result, entirely different. I did however, make my physical analogue book a portal to a digital world by coding a complementary app that allowed readers to go deeper, share their thoughts & add their own.
Thanks for sharing your perspectives on this.
