Ideation Game
Crazy 8’s is a sketching game that generates ideas in a short amount of time. To play, set a timer for eight minutes and sketch eight designs. You can use paper, a whiteboard, or a digital tool like InVision Freehand. The goal is to finish with eight unique designs.
This game is for individuals or teams. Collaboration is valuable because you never know what some else is going to come up with. It’s essential that everyone playing feels comfortable and open. There shouldn’t be any pressure to come up with a perfect design. The idea is to sketch fast and come out with rough sketches.
Crazy 8’s is a tool to generate and collaborate on ideas quickly. It fits nicely in the ideation phase of the design cycle when everyone has a grasp on the user needs. This is the phase where we want to uncover, test, and rapidly iterate new ideas.
The game is a catalyst for new ideas and players should be encouraged to think outside of the box. It’s always easier to scale back a crazy idea rather than prop up a mediocre one.
