I’m a bit concerned about the hyper-enthusiastic responses to this article. Of course we need to stop using fossil fuels, the arguments are repeated all over the place. But this talk of “killing” oil, as if it is all about, and only about, the internal combustion engine, is a bit silly, isn’t it? Just about any household, while not thinking about “oil” or “fossil fuels”, is likely to contain hundreds of things which are actually made out of oil, from the paint on the walls to the glue and medicines in the cupboards to the shampoo and hairspray and lipstick in the bathroom to the food wrappers and drinks bottles in the kitchen. Products from oil are woven deeply into the fabric of our lives. It’s going to be complicated, it isn’t just about using petrol-driven cars!
