Dear Google: Please Build A Project Management App

Dear Google,

Would you please build a project management app? I need one that’s integrated with the rest of my work life. And when it comes to that part of my digital existence, well, you own it.

At work, I use Google Apps for everything. I live in Gmail. When an email won’t suffice, I use Hangouts. All my work — from scribbles to spreadsheets—is in Google Drive. Google Calendar is the system of record for my *life*. Much to Apple’s chagrin, Chrome is my default browser. The final pillar of productivity is a management tool to rule them all. Why don’t you have it?

I’ve tried other tools, Google. But I don’t care for them. Some are decent. Most are pitiful. Jira is antiquated and cluttered with fields I don’t need. It wasn’t built for me, a marketer, and you know it. Asana is modern but tries to be too cute — too many options, not clean enough. Trello goes perhaps too far in the cleanliness department.

But even if any of these tools had a nifty UI and all the widgets on my wish list, it would still fall short of what I need. And that, Google, only you can provide.

What I need is a tool that’s integrated with Google Apps. I want to link tasks to emails. I want to attach documents from Google Drive. I want to add a collaborator from my contacts, and to have it autopopulate [sigh]. I want to set a deadline and have it automatically generate a reminder on my calendar. And I want it aaaallll indexed with that Googly goodness.

For lack of a better option, I’ve resorted to using a Google Doc with a bulleted list of to-dos, many of which are linked to other documents or emails. But it’s not ideal. And it definitely ain’t pretty.

Google, I’m your dream customer. I’m asking you to build another product that makes you stickier. I’m offering you more of my data so you can monetize me better. And there are more like me, more who want the same.

Will you answer the call?

Sincerely,

Graham
