On Sunday morning I went for a SummerStretch

I’m always on the lookout for cool shit to do in Dublin and on Sunday I came across an absolute doozy! While half watching Wimbledon on Saturday evening I found this event taking place on Sandymount beach. Exercising on the beach… that sounds like fun. So after sending an obligatory message to my friend Andy, I was ready to rock.

At 10.15 on Sunday morning I rolled up to Sandymount beach not knowing where on the beach I should be. After wandering around for a few minutes I met a group of people standing around, looking confused and lost. These people must be here for summer stretch! After a bit of chatting we all walked to the other side of the beach and found the rest of the group. I was really surprised how many people there was. Easily 100+. A great turnout!

When the instructors arrived they began putting us through our paces with some jogging and light stretching.

With the warm up done, the hard stuff really began! Now I’m no fitness buff but I do like to keep fit doing a bit of gym work and running, so I was thinking how hard could this work out on the beach be. Turns out pretty hard!!

The next 30 minutes were focused on core work, doing many body weight exercises(squats, planks, lunges, push ups, etc). We also partnered up with people to do some of the exercises. These partner exercises were both the most fun and the toughest! They were also great for getting to know some new people as the instructors made us change partners at the end of each exercise segment.

With all the core work completed, we finished the workout with some light stretching. I was totally beat and my legs where in bits cycling to the office this morning! To finish the morning off, I went for a stroll along the sea.

Big thanks to everyone at Gym+Coffee and the amazing instructors Becca Gillen and Sarah Moloney for an outstanding morning!
