I think this really hits the nail on the head.

I have no real issue with the USB-C change, except that if I want to connect a phone directly to USB-C then it has to be an android device. Apple should have started that migration with the iPhone so that the ecosystem fits together nicely.

Assuming they do it in the next iPhone revision, that means anyone that’s bought lightning headphones for their iPhone will have to replace them with USB3.
