It’s those sad hound dog eyes. They make Einstein look cuddly. For years I had an Einstein quote as part of my email signature. It read: “The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.” Now I wonder whether Einstein actually said that.
The late Newsweek columnist Stewart Alsop joked that whenever he dreamed up a nifty aphorism, he attributed it to Winston Churchill. No one, he reasoned, had the stamina to read Churchill’s voluminous writings and verify the line’s provenance. So Alsop’s secret would be safe.
