On Saturday Nov. 8, Pretty Princess Parties will return to the Northland for their Fairytale Ball.

Your favorite Disney Princesses like Elsa, Ariel, Cinderella, Repunzel, and much more will be gracing the halls of the new Pier B Resort to have a fun packed day with the princess in your life. The ball will consist of story time, face painting, making wishes, songs, games, and photos and hugs with the princesses.

The event is hosted by Pretty Princess Parties, a company based out of Duluth that was created by Jodi Polasky in 2013. Since then the company has grown into a large success. Polasky and the princesses travel around the Midwest doing birthday parties and balls as well as other events like throwing the first pitch at the Saint Paul Saints game.

This is the first year that the Fairytale Ball will be held at the new Pier B Resort. Since Pretty Princess Parties was born in Duluth it has had events at local places like Lake Superior Zoo, Clyde Iron Works and the Vista Fleet.

Actresses from Duluth and the Twin Cities make up the cast of princesses.

Shannon Balstad has been with the company for three years and has had the chance to be princesses like the Little Mermaid, Cinderella and Beauty.

Balstad explains that many actresses are drawn to the company to further their acting careers and gain performance experience, but that is not the only reason to become a princess.

“Having the chance of passing on the values and important lessons fairytale characters can teach a child is very much fulfilling work. It’s a chance to instill them with a little bit of confidence or simply help them make fun and exciting memories” Balstad said

Mary Myers, UMD freshman, is also an employee for Pretty Princess Parties and has had a chance to be princesses like the Snow Princesses to the Scottish Princess

“I think everyone grows up wanting to be a part of a fairytale,” Myers said. “You just know you’re helping create memories that will last a lifetime”

Although the balls are a very rewarding experience, the transformation into the princesses is a timely process. A typical day behind the scenes at a Fairytale Ball, according to Meyers, starts as early as 5 a.m with the extensive hair and makeup routine which can take up to two hours to complete.

“People should be expecting memories that last a lifetime,” Myers said. “From the moment the children enter the room, they are swept away by the magic.”

The event will be held Saturday Nov. 8 at the new Pier B Resort Ballroom. There will be two different events throughout the day, afternoon ball will start at 1:30pm and evening Ball will start at 5:30pm. Tickets range between $50-$70 depending on which ball you attend.
