What Middle New Zealand Really Thinks
Middle New Zealand, there’s been a lot of discussion on this cohort of New Zealander’s, who they are, and the challenges that they are facing in the current climate of today’s economy. As someone who resides within in this group I have to agree with them on the challenges present in the keeping the lifestyle I have worked very hard for and want to continue to do so in the future.
I have currently been residing in my 1970s renovated Ellerslie townhouse for the past 7 years. I keep the house and the garden strenuously maintained throughout the week. I work from home these days, I prefer not to commute and the other members of my household are in an employment position where I am able to do so comfortably. I make sure though I don’t work too hard as I prefer to enjoy my relatively safe neighborhood and be able to plod away in the garden on a good day. While this is the lifestyle I have earned through the kiwi hard work ethic, I feel that is being under threat through the pressures of populist liberal sentiment.
Recently the local council held a public meeting in regards to future development plans, wanting to look into the possibility of building high density residential properties to help alleviate the housing “problem” in Auckland. While this might seem all well and good for those who are not able to save and work hard to get into the housing market, what about the damage that these eyesores will do to those already living in their hard earned properties like myself. The possible damage done to the makeup and feel of the neighborhood I love could be disastrous, suddenly creating shortcuts for people to get into houses in my suburb will most likely end up ghettoizing it with their feral lifestyles.
These people who would rather take holidays and pay for sky television than save up for the proper New Zealand quarter acre dream, if they want to have it easy I’m sure there’s plenty of options in Manakau or even further south for them. These are probably the same people that aren’t even able to look after themselves properly, I work hard so I’m able to afford the best cuts of meat and afford the best private medical care and regular check-ups. They probably prefer to have that nasty canned meat and expect they state to provide them with their healthcare options. I’m sure even the rigorous grooming and hygiene standards seem to be lost on these people with their dirty paws.
Furthermore with these issues becoming to the fore-front of public debate there has been moaning from the liberal-left and attacks on my way of life, which we need to share with those who are “less-fortunate”. The greens want to put further restrictions on us and how we live our comfortable hard earned lifestyles, supposedly to respect the wishes of local groups and thinking about future generations. Then we have so called experts like Gareth Morgan who are threatening my hard earned way of life with their “common-sense” liberal nonsense to share the hard investment opportunities with others and specifically those indigenous groups who supposedly still need a hand up. I believe in survival of the fittest, I’ve worked hard over the years to get where I am and don’t see why others can’t do the same. But at the end of the day I’m just a cat, who’s going to listen to me? I just want my belly scratched and then I’ll go have a nap.
