“This has nothing to do with religion” — Parents of Orlando Nightclub Mass Murderer

The news shocked us out of sleep this morning. 20 dead in downtown Orlando, mass shooting, gay nightclub “Pulse”.

My first thought: it must’ve be a hate crime.

It’s been a horrifying weekend in Orlando, “The Voice” singer Christina Grimmie murdered by a Florida man after performing at a nightclub

Now this.

ISIS could not ask for a better public relations department than the FBI who rushed to call this a terrorist incident before learning the facts.

All morning, people have said that ISIS caused the worst mass shooting in American history.

People debated banning guns, muslims or both, carefully ignoring the shooter’s American citizenship, upbringing and lifelong residence- instead spreading rumors based on his ethnic heritage.

It was in fact a hate crime.

NBC interviewed the parents of Omar Mateen, a Florida licensed security guard who held a statewide gun permit.

As the many gun rights and 2nd Amendment proponents will state, the club was a gun-free zone under state law, because alcohol was being served.

But at what point will gun rights finally be balanced with the right to life enshrined in law by our Constitution.

A Supreme Court Justice once said:

“The choice is not between order and liberty. It is between liberty with order and anarchy without either. There is danger that, if the court does not temper its doctrinaire logic with a little practical wisdom, it will convert the constitutional Bill of Rights into a suicide pact.”

Or enable the worst hate crime in American history.

Now 50 Americans will leave their own dissent to the Supreme Court’s recent DC vs. Heller pro-gun rights decision in stone, and their families will weep.

But will anything finally change?

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
