A pilot project which utilizes graphic novels to stimulate a discussion about gender discrimination, prejudice, and stereotypes.
This week we’re excited to start yet another amazing graphic novel- The Complete Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi. But before we start reading, we did a web quest in order to learn more about Iran and its rich and complicated history.
Today we discussed the last chapters of Tomboy. We talked about how we’d end the book if we were Liz Prince. In fact, we wouldn't change it at all.
Today, we talked about heroes and heroines. Teacher Iskra posted this on the board. We had to say whether we agree or not and say why:
Today we worked with Kalina, a writer, and Ladislav, an illustrator.
Our first exercise was to write a short story/scenario that would fit into 3–5 panels.
Working in groups, we made some pretty cool collages. They all tell Liz’s story and her struggle to fit in.
