With the increase in usage of smart phones, having a mobile application for your website/product becomes almost mandatory. A mobile app is important for a lot of reasons —
It allows users to access your website from anywhere and reduces the hassle of using mobile web browsers You can notify the customers about current offers and new services if their mobile apps are linked to their email account or phone number
The users can provide feedback and reviews quickly which will further help you to expand and improve your business.
Now that I’ve stated the reasons as to why mobile apps are important, it’s necessary to talk about what will guarantee customers to choose your app — Design. Mobile app designs can go a far way to ensure that your potential customers prefer your apps over the other apps in the market — which, as a chain reaction, is important to the growth of your company. So here are the 5 hottest trends in App Design that will WOW your Potential Customers:

1. Minimalism and Calm Colour schemes

If you look at most of our social media apps- Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook or ecommerce apps like Amazon or Flipkart, all of them focus on having a very simple yet comfortable appearance.

Mobile apps are experiencing a push towards minimalism and simplicity so that the user can focus on the content, which is be the crux of a business rather than eloquent typography or detailed high definition images. This allows developers to focus more on UX over mastering textures and effects.

Have you ever wondered why Twitter, Flipkart, Facebook and Amazon are coloured in various shades of blue? The answer is simple — blue symbolizes trust, intelligence and loyalty. It symbolizes what these apps are offering. Neutral and pastel colour schemes will prevail in app design in the coming years.

2. Gestures

I think we can all agree that our favourite Snapchat feature is zooming in during a video by just a swipe of the thumb — it’s just convenient. Imagine reading on your phone and swiping in the air to turn a page. That’s the power of having in-app gesticulation.

Pinch, Swipe, Slide, Double Tap and your task is done; gestures will definitely be up on the list of trends you should implement in your product.

They are fun, convenient and reduce the excruciating effort of pressing or clicking on a button when you need to take a picture multiple times or turn pages every minute or simply zoom in on a product you want to purchase.

3. Material Design

Aesthetics and design are always a prime factor that users notice while using an app hence the concept of Material Design will add to the overall appearance of your app.

Google’s Material Design has become one of the most influential philosophies in application design. It suggests layering and animation techniques. It combines tactile experience with bold visual aesthetics — so basically it gives guidance on pattern or components. It can be broken down into 3 parts –

1.Realistic visual cues — the design well is realistic, analogous to what it would appear as using paper and ink.

2.Bold, graphic and intentional — The visuals are driven by fundamental design techniques like typography, space and color.

3.Motion — This provides animation to your material; actions mirror movements in real life.

Material Design adds 3D effects such as surface layering to flat design elements and will definitely lure users towards your app.

4. Wearables

Wearables have hit the market like a tornado and it’s been predicted that by the year 2019 at least 200 million devices would have been sold. This in turn increases the need of web developers adapting apps to these tiny devices. As discussed earlier — Minimalism, Material Design and Gestures all will have to combined effectively to make the apps on these tiny devices work efficiently.

5. Virtual Reality or WebVR

WebVR is a set of JavaScript APIs that provide a variety of VR-related utilities to place the user in an interactive environment generated using a WebGL. It includes 3D perspectives in both sound and visual effects.

If I were to explain WebVR in two words, I’d say Pokémon Go. The success of Pokémon Go has definitely sown the seeds of Augmented Reality in the mobile application development market. Virtual Reality is giving the user an experience of an imaginary place while they are doing trivial tasks like ordering online, browsing or reading.

Have you tried those VR games where you walk from one end of a thin wall to the other, all the while feeling like you’re on the last floor of a thirty two floor tall building and crossing over to the other side using a thin pole? Imagine if you were to fly in a Jedi starfighter shooting products you want on your way so that they get added to your cart? What if you could wave your magic wand and deliver a message on social media? With WebVR , this is possible. All in all, WebVR is going to be the real deal in the coming future!( you know what I mean)
