Because she’s being absolute about it and fueling a debate instead of just sharing an experience. So I listened. And I expressed my point of view… which is driven by a cultural influence of hundreds of years… to be polite and helpful to others. She’s just saying “leave me alone you insult me by being polite like that” (I’m obviously paraphrasing). I wanted to voice a different perspective. Not one of one single person, one of a culture. And yes, maybe instead of saying “I open the door… I’m sexist” I could have written “ONE opens the door… ONE is sexist”… and used that generic for the rest of my paragraph. Would that have been better?
