Twitter; A Lost Opportunity

As a part of my effort to meet and learn from people, developers, especially, I have been to quite a few meetups and talks lately. Pretty much all introductions end in an effort to exchange contact information. What stood out to me is that most of these smart people do not use Twitter. Some do not even have a profile while a majority of them have only posted a few times, years ago.

I am quite active on Twitter as I tend to derive a lot of value out of it. I follow a lot of developers and it is amazing how much goes on there. I have honestly learnt a lot just by being in the room. It is surprising to me that so many people in the community choose not to participate.

I blame Twitter. While there are many a people who consciously choose to not participate on any social media sites (which is a fine decision), the fact that so many people tried and just never came back, is not ok. Twitter has just sat on this problem for so long and I feel saddened. I feel saddened thinking of all the lost connections, interactions and possibility for growth and collaboration.
