There’s a difference between work and doing work, and between a job and a career. i’m with you completely on the importance of meaning to work, and even to working (doing work), but I think some of the ideas proposed might apply more to work viewed narrowly (as the jobs we do and do at work) than to the meaning and purpose we obtain from a career that’s well aligned to our personal beliefs and values, which is rewarding on a cognitive level (meaning our view of ourselves, expectations of what we should be doing and how well, etc), which fits into our financial, life, local and other goals, and which is pleasant socially and interpersonally. These are tough to get right. You can have the career in mind, but not find a job that fits within it. Or have the job, but unattached to any career path.
Insofar as work is created by corporations (for the most part), and not auto-generated by us, there’s always going to be a conflict both of interest and of alignment (the outputs of the job, the purpose of the job, who or what is served by making the job available, and by filling the job with a worker).
Personally would love it if it were possible for all people to have meaningful work. But systemically it’s probably not an option.
