This is a fantastic roundup. I’ve seen all of this, and the best thing I did as a young designer was gradually learn to interpret what people REALLY are looking for vs. what they say they want.
What I really want to know/fear is what happens to all these flavors of designers when many are lumped together under the title Product Designer. Do those people that love tactical UI beauty grow up to become those Visionaries we need? Or does the decreasing employability of those who are less visually-oriented lead to a lack of more strategic understanding of design? And don’t even get me started on where service design might fit into this.
