Estimation doesn’t have to be as difficult as you may think. I want to share an approach I’ve used to help make estimating more accurate and more consistent.

Why estimate?

This is a big question to answer. If you don’t already have an answer to this, then this story may not be very useful for you.

I’d recommend doing a bit of reading about estimation and why it can be vital to successful delivery.

If your thoughts are more in the vein of “I want to be better at estimation” then read on :)

Estimating is not “just” an opinion

Estimation of tickets is subjective. If something is subjective, it is inherently based on an opinion.

Subjective (adj): based on or influenced by personal feelings, tastes, or opinions.

Taken at face value opinion may be a fickle thing, it may be influenced by a multitude of factors — some of which may be subconscious.

What is an opinion anyway?
