Daddy Does It Again

Now keep in mind the meaning of the phrase “daddy does it again” is relative to who is saying it.

If I’m saying it, I’m the dad, so “daddy does it again” has a swag to it. A confidence. An authoritative glance of achievement (nodding head).

If my wife is saying it, she’s the mom, so “daddy does it again” has more than a hint of disbelief. A disappointment. A winnowing stare of bereavement (shaking head).

So, I just found a way to dry my son’s wet shoes by hanging them from the kitchen ceiling fan on high, as opposed to tumbling them in the drier while everyone is trying to sleep.

I stepped back and said, “daddy does it again.”

Tomorrow morning my wife will walk into the kitchen and say, “daddy does it again.”

Can you here the subtle difference in the inflection?

Me too.
