I agree with most of your points, hashtags can be useful for the points you made but also for content distribution if you use the right hashtags. For instance, I also work in the tech industry, so you’ll notice that a lot of tech people will use hashtags that are acronyms to something else. Marketers who are trying to target them won’t find those hashtags without doing quite a bit of research on their target audience. Another key is not hitting the same hashtags over and over again. Much of our Twitter strategy is marketing in a way that doesn’t make us look like a spammer.

Honestly though, Twitter sucks and I wish they would fix it. I would stop distributing content there in a heartbeat, but we’ve found ways and tactics to find our target audience. Also important to note is that the content you share should be both enjoyable, useful, and relevant. If you are using clickbait tactics and spewing bullshit you will never see any valuable growth. It’s not all about clicks anymore, it’s about real interaction.
