What was once the highest-grossing Indonesian horror film is back with a direct sequel. Still helmed by the maestro Joko Anwar, Satan Slaves 2 takes a bolder direction with its unique setting.

Takes place 3 years after the first film, the family now lives in a government-funded apartment; thinking it would be safe as they are surrounded by people. Tragedy then happens inside, involving residents that also psychologically and shockingly terrorize us as the audience in that one sequence. Now, the family must once again face the terror that brought them suffering 3 years before.

In contrast with its slow-burn predecessor, Satan Slaves 2: Communion could be compared to a thrilling roller-coaster ride. Characters might not play important roles here, but kudos to the direction that utilizes the cinematography and sound design, delivering effective jumpscare. It’s another worthy addition to Joko Anwar's solid filmography so far.
