Life Lessons. We all want them and need them. They are making our lifes easier. There are a lot of them, which are very useful, given from the greatest people around the globe and they all are fully accessible on the internet for free. They already sound like shortcuts.

But what happens if we read or see such a “life lesson”? It could be on a blog, on YouTube or wherever you obtain your digital information from.

Mostly we read them, we may be thinking “wow, that’s true!” and then skip probably to the next. After seeing 10–20 “life lessons”, guess how much of them will you remember and how much of them you really use. Not as many as you might hope.

In this article you will learn an easy method, how you can prevent forgetting these very helpful lessons, most people do not use and such do not take a profit out of them.

From phase to phase I have the same problem repeatedly. It depends on my general state. Am I motivated at this moment? Or do I feel a bit of tired and just try to gain some motivation?

For me this period of “overconsuming” life lessons occur mostly on YouTube videos. You can obtain so much value from experts and even your role models on YouTube and get out there with a good feeling, but without really learning it, you feel emptier from time to time.

But if you want to absorb these lessons and use it within your life, you have to be prepared to hear a few minutes of tremendously valuable content.

What do I mean with “being prepared”?

As the word “life lessons” already says, it is a lesson. A lesson is meant to be there to be learned by you.

And there is the crucial point. The amount of people watching these videos or reading blogs or articles like this is huge. But the majority doesn’t really learn these lessons. Most of the people only hear, see or read them one time and the life lesson disappears from their minds probably in the next hour or at the very latest 48 hours from the point of consumption.

In principle this method works for all the interesting knowledge you want to learn.

  1. Making yourself clear, you want to learn this lesson.
Don’t click indiscriminately through the internet for interesting videos or articles without a real motivation. Your goal has to be to learn something, that probably simplifies or improves your life.
If you see some content like “3 Steps to learn any skill faster!”, which is interesting for you, affirm you really want to learn these “3 Steps to learn any skill faster!”.
  2. Getting yourself into a positive mood
Exactly this is the reason, why we forgot nearly everything we learned in school. Be aware of the following formula:
    Learning*Emotion=Long term knowledge
We associated school commonly with boredom. And boredom isn’t really a good emotion. Even if the stuff was really good in school, we would never get it into our brains for the long term, because we were bored.
Two easy ways to get yourself into a positive mood are to implement good thoughts and to move your body.
For creating some good thoughts, I am really confident, you will find any happy occasion of your life, you associate with some good emotions.
Moving your body will then help you to gain some more positive emotions and some heartbeat. Motion creates (positive) emotion.
  3. Getting active.
Now you read this article or watched this video and you may think “man, this was magic!”. But with closing the browser everything seems to disappear slowly but immediately. That’s when you have to take action!
We all know, we learn much better and faster, if are active instead of passive.
The first step of being active is simply to write everything down, which you think is worth it. That is probably the crucial step within this whole method. You can assume surely, that 90% percent of all people who consumed the same content like you, didn’t write down, what they learned from it. Further more you can assume, the people, who have written their newly gained knowledge down, are much much closer to really use this knowledge. Keep in mind, in the end it is all about your action and execution. So get active, absorb this knowledge and use it!
The second step of being active is to teach your knowledge. You can do it by telling a friend what you have learned, creating a short presentation with a few slides or write an article like this. Put your knowledge into action.

To come to an end, let me give you a short terminating message.

There are so many people, who don’t know themselves very well (including me). To get back closer to your inner identity and to get to know yourself better, journaling is a very great tool, because you think very much about yourself and reflect your daily habits.

I said, I am one of these people, who don’t know themselves very well, and this is okay. But I am practicing and making progress everyday to find the way I want me to live my life. And I am sure about this one thing in my life: This daily progress is dope! I never want to miss that feeling again! Progress or growth is a success in itself.

My friend, what are you going to do now?

Let me close this with a lovely quote.

Get to know yourself and the life, you deeply want inside of you, will manifest.
