LG Mobile’s Plummet Into Irrelevance
LG Electronics is a conglomerate from South Korea. From TVs to home appliances to consumer electronics to manufacturing parts, LG is renowned all over. So why is LG Mobile struggling then? Putting aside their weird product roll-out schedules and a host of other peculiarities this article won’t touch on, a big part in the division struggles lies with their branding. What is the LG Mobile brand? No one knows. LG themselves don’t even seem to know what they want to be. The division is struggling so badly it managed to drag the whole brand into quarterly loss.
For this article, I carried out a poll to find out what people thought of 6 brands across 6 metrics. 1. Quality Design, 2. User Friendliness, 3. Impressive Cameras, 4. Clean Software, 5. Value for Money, and 6. Indifference. Metrics 2 and 4 might seem to overlap but I made sure to clarify that user friendliness refers to the ease of using the software (ie. everything is easy to find and navigate), while clean software refers to a bloat free one or one that isn’t stuffed with unnecessary features. I sent the poll out to my friends and got them to share it among their friends, after about a week, I got back about 100 responses and the results are below:
