Even if I wasn’t hired, it would greatly increase my respect for any company whose HR people had the courage and integrity to contact me by phone so they could tell me in such a direct and interactive way that the job was no longer available.
Of course, I would only expect such “service” if a job offer had actually been given, in language hard to misinterpret. I learned long ago, that if they haven’t “said the words”, the words have not been offered, and neither has a job. That being the case, I don’t ever imagine them making multiple calls to multiple candidates for multiple positions, all of whom were neither promised nor granted a position.
One consolation of being treated inappropriately though, should be the avoidance of hat it would be like in the employment of a company who is that opaque about relating any kind of “BadNews”. If they’re willing to do that to strangers, possible future customers, please just try to imagine what kind of “notice” was given to the unfortunate person who might have previously held the same position.
