“Mr. President, can you spare a dime?”

People once used these “Hobo Codes” to let others know what to expect, should they enter a particular town or the yard of someone’s house. Quite often they could be found cryptically left on your front fence or gate; their own helpful “Yelp” review of your response to a visitor in need.

Anyone who goes to visit the White House these days might want to leave one or more of these behind as well.
