“Nice guys finish!”
One aspect of every majorly narcissistic manager I’ve ever known is their propensity to immediately drop all interest in a project or person when they realize that their ego or agenda will not be ultimately and singularly served.
Many if not most of the “seagull managers” could be among the narcissists of the world; always assigning new projects, always forgetting all about them if their name is not quickly highlighted in attachment to it’s progress.
“Nice people” outlast these managers, because their record of actual accomplishments give corporate “cutters” no reason to deem them to be excessive assets. If your company has no progress being made, your best narcissists have nothing real to brag about; words are so much less useful than profits.
So in business, politics, and even relationships, it’s the nice guys who will dutifully have “gotten things done” after the narcissists have moved on to more self-gratifying fields of fortune. Business is done, others are served, happiness is spread around generously…
