Empire State Ride : Day -2

Well, if you have been following along so far, that means you truly do have interest in this stuff. Let’s start with the good stuff. If you read yesterdays post, you saw the Star Trek reference. That’s because I went last night. It was awesome. Whether you are a trekkie or not, you need to go.

I can’t believe I married a Trekkie …. I really hit the pot of gold on that one.

The man!!

Next, kudos to Dr. Jason Hearn. Last year, he helped me get through some nasty achilles tendonitis (from over training) to complete my first marathon. So, why not head back to the “expert”. First thing I learned: if you have an injury, do not assume that your ability to leverage that Great Google Machine in the Sky will in any way give you some sort of indication of your problem. I convinced myself I had a stress fracture and would pretty much be done. Dr. Hearn diagnosed it as “flexor tendonitis”. He basically said it was the flexing up of the toes (not the pressure down) causing the pain. He gave me a mild steroid shot and showed me how to do a figure eight taping of the toes to reduce the pain while walking/cycling. So far, it is working well enough I am leaning towards using the clips on the first day (Woo Hoo!!). The taping I amdoing is the middle onein the picture below … NOT MY FOOT.

That’s all I have for today peeps. More packing. Last day of work. Head to NYC tomorrow for 1 day of fun and then I get to meat all the crazies I will be doing this ride with. Thanks again everyone for all the supportive emails …. you all totally rock.

Oh … and if you are a devops geek, I just finished writing fl-hbase-deploy-cluster ….. yeah … just ran it … and it worked. How many years in the making was that? Although, not sure how comfortable I am checking it into github right before this trip with no computer for over a week. HAH.
