Instagram added a feed-driven algorithm, world still unexploded.

What hasn’t changed:

  • Social media is a worldwide communications tool.
  • Everyone is competing for attention.
  • The quality of ideas and content is of utmost importance.
  • Relatability, relevance, and timliness are why we share things.
  • Engagement is not a goal.

What has changed:

  • Sometimes posts won’t be in chronological order.

The news of Instagram and Twitter moving to algorithm-driven feeds like Facebook shook the marketing and advertising world recently, and it absolutely shouldn’t have.

Besides the fact that anyone in the business should have been able to see this coming, it hasn’t changed the game as much as all the clickbait headlines want you to believe.

If you’re operating a truly successful social media program, that’s driving real business results, a reduction in the organic reach of its content should not grind it to a halt.
