Let me tell you about the time William Shatner aka Captain Kirk, aka Denny Crane, aka TJ Hooker, aka THE Priceline Negotiatior set his phaser to Twitter Burn and took aim at the staff of AL.com, Alabama’s preeminent source of… news?

A sampling of the fine reporting done by the fearless reporters of AL.com.

Shatner, arguably the most famous 84 year old on Twitter, has a very active social media presence which lead him to respond in jest to AL.com reporter Madison Underwood.

When a legend takes a shot at you, you have to step back and appreciate the moment (very much so when that legend is 84, and let’s face it won’t be around much longer) which Underwood did gracefully.

All was right in the world. Until three weeks later when fellow reporter Kelly Poe decided to play the role of Johnny-Come-Lately.

And evoked the Wrath of Khan.

At which point the rest of Poe’s co-workers decided to rally the wagons and bond together over attacking an octogenarian. But James Tiberius doesn’t back down when the odds are stacked against him.

The hours long exchange brought out other fans of AL.com to weigh in on their favorite source of… news?

A real article written on AL.com

Shatner was relentless in his pursuit of the newspaper and its staff.

Can’t Stop. Won’t Stop.

And then it crossed over to Facebook where Shatner continued his rage against the newspaper. Much to the delight of haters.

“Future Pulitzer non-winner” is 100% the best shot at journalist. Hard to win a Pulitzer when the entire staff of a newspaper is spending their time getting crushed by Captain Kirk. And asking for more.

These people want more Shatner. They get more Shatner.

Maybe they learned their les…

At least someone on Facebook can speak for everyone watching this transpire in the most public of forums.

Next week we can see the staff of AL.com take on Mark Hamill.
