S.H.A.P.E — Part 3

Learning about things is fun, discovering is interesting, sharing them is even more amazing.
But if all you do is read and you don't apply any of the things you have learnt or read then you have just wasted 'yourself'. Remember you are an embodiment of 'time' that means your life is directly proportional to time used properly. So, "if you waste your time, you ..."
I'm sure you know the rest.
If you think I am a bit harsh today, I am very 'not sorry'.

Moving on...

Today we will be talking about the third letter 'A' in our series S.H.A.P.E. 'A' stands for 'ATTITUDE’. I can tell you for free that this is one of the factors that determine whether one fails or succeed. Now I’m not saying the others don’t matter, what I mean is when you take this out of the equation, you are destined to fail. There’s no escaping this!

Attitude is Key.
Having a Positive attitude towards situations, challenges (no matter terrible) will go a long way in determining whether it here will be resolved.

"A bad attitude is like a flat tire, you won't get no where until you change it" - Unknown

The saying above is accurate but it doesn't tell the implication of trying to move with a flat tire. First, the tyre begins to have contact with the rims, overtime it damages the tire which could have been fixed. Over a longer period time the rims are exposed and begin to cause damage to the tarred road. Such damages are not easily erased.
If we relate the tyre to your inner circle of friends, colleagues, family etc. The tarred roads can be said to be our path in life.

"Attitude can be positive or negative evaluation of people, objects, events, activities and ideas"

Prominent Psychologist Gordon Allport described this latent psychological construct as "the most distinctive and indispensable concept in contemporary social psychology".

Our attitude is determined by;

  • Family; siblings, parents etc.
  • Psychological factors like ideas, values, beliefs, etc.
  • Society; culture, tradition, language etc
  • Economy; salary, status, work environment etc.

Our attitude can be influenced and made better by

  • you
  • yourself
  • and finally you.

You are in charge, regardless of what has been influencing your attitude. Remember you are in charge!

I’ll end with this,

Attitude is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than what people do or say. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. — Charles R. Swindoll
