Whitmer campaign calls on El-Sayed to return tainted money
LANSING — According to a reporter from Detroit News, several wealthy out-of-state donors to Abdul El-Sayed donated nearly $100,000 on July 31 into the PAC for State Rep. Abdullah Hammoud, who in turn funneled $61,200 in late contributions the next day back into El-Sayed’s campaign. Yesterday El-Sayed posted a Trump-style tweet falsely accusing Gretchen Whitmer of “money laundering.”
“One day after falsely accusing Gretchen Whitmer of money laundering, it now appears that Abdul El-Sayed is running a potentially illegal donor funneling scheme,” said Whitmer Press Secretary Nicole Simmons. “While Gretchen has…

Evans and community leaders in Detroit, Pontiac, Flint, Saginaw, Muskegon, Grand Rapids, and Benton Harbor.
Whitmer’s plan focuses on: bringing down auto insurance rates; supporting regional transit; restoring the Earned Income Tax Credit for working families; protecting revenue sharing for police and fire; reducing crime and preventing gun violence; expanding affordable housing; and ending racial disparities in health, education…
Whitmer Releases Plan to Protect Roe v. Wade in Michigan
DETROIT — Today former Senate Democratic Leader and Ingham County Prosecutor Gretchen Whitmer released her plan to protect and expand women’s reproductive rights by enshrining Roe v. Wade protections in state law. With the fate of Roe vs. Wade hanging in the balance with Donald Trump’s Supreme Court appointment, Whitmer’s plan will repeal the 1931 law that criminalizes abortion and reinstate funding for family planning. Read the plan here.
“The stakes in this election couldn’t be higher for Michigan women and families,” said Whitmer. “As Governor, I will work fiercely…
LANSING — Former Senate Democratic Leader and Ingham County Prosecutor Gretchen Whitmer issued the following statement today blasting Bill Schuette’s plan to ban safe and legal access to abortion in Michigan if Roe v. Wade is overturned by the Supreme Court:
“As a mom, I want my daughters to grow up in a state where women can make their own choices about their bodies. That’s why as governor, I am going to fight like hell to pass state laws that will protect women’s legal right to control their bodies and make their own decisions about whether and when to become a parent. The fate of Roe v. Wade and our constitutional rights are on the line in this election, and there is simply too much at stake for Michigan women to let Bill Schuette anywhere near the governor’s office.”
LANSING — Today, former Senate Democratic Leader and Ingham County Prosecutor Gretchen Whitmer released the following statement after reports revealed that warnings of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, contamination in Michigan were made in 2012.
“Ignoring credible warnings of PFAS contamination is yet another example of how leaders like Governor Rick Snyder and Bill Schuette have put dollars and cents ahead of people’s lives. Michigan is home to more than 21 percent of the world’s fresh water, but right now dozens of sites across the state have been identified as being contaminated with PFAS. We cannot continue to ignore…
LANSING — A group of Lansing Republicans with close ties to the DeVos family have launched a fake Democratic Super PAC called “Priorities for Michigan” to attack former Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer in a new series of online ads.
The new dark money group shares a mailing address with the Republican organization “A League of Their Own,” whose website lists former Republican House Speaker Jase Bolger and DeVos family political operative Tony Daunt as “coaches.”
“This is a new low, even for the slimy DeVos family,” said Zack Pohl, Communications Director for the Whitmer campaign. “Republican billionaires like the…

Gretchen Whitmer Statement on Republican Bill Cutting Medicaid
LANSING — Today former Senate Democratic Leader and Ingham County Prosecutor Gretchen Whitmer released the following statement after Republicans in the legislature voted to cut Medicaid:
“Every Michigander deserves access to quality, affordable health care. That’s why I worked across the aisle to expand Medicaid to over 680,000 Michiganders through Healthy Michigan. This legislation will take health care away from tens of thousands of Michigan families, which will hurt our whole economy. By supporting this shameful legislation, Bill Schuette and Brian Calley have…

Gretchen Whitmer Statement on Prevailing Wage Repeal
LANSING — Today former Senate Democratic Leader and Ingham County Prosecutor Gretchen Whitmer released the following statement after the legislature voted to repeal Michigan’s prevailing wage law:
“This is one of the dumbest votes the legislature has ever taken. All the happy talk about encouraging people to go into careers in the skilled trades will be directly undercut by repealing prevailing wage. That’s because this legislation will cut the wages of Michigan’s skilled tradesmen and women, drive talented construction workers out of state, and…
