Are you all about living big, but stuck in a too-small-for-you apartment?

Sky-high rents, limited vacancies, neighborhood issues, or just a love for tinies- we all have our different reasons to settle for small living spaces. Big doesn’t necessarily mean better, but it sure is what most of us are used to, so here are some tips to make the best out of living in small spaces.

Keep it Personal

One good thing about small spaces that all of us can agree on is that it is easily customizable and can be highly personalized. So don’t hesitate to pour your personality to your home.

Functionality first

Be it the furniture, the decor or the layout- maximize functionality. Go for multipurpose furnishing like sofa-beds and convertible shelves that can double as dining tables when you have guests over. Built in wardrobes and cupboards are a huge plus. Spend some bucks in smart storage options, you won’t regret it.

Cut the Clutter

‘Throw in all the things you love in one place and call it home!’ If that’s your approach, you need to tone it down. We’re trying to not have to live in a cramped apartment here. So remember, mix match all you like, just make sure it doesn’t turn into a mish mash!

KonMari it

You’ll be surprised how much space properly organizing stuff can create. In the words of organizing aficionado Marie Kondo, if it doesn’t ‘spark joy’, dump it, and if it does show it some love. You can buy organizers for your clothes and toiletries, but make sure you use them, otherwise they’ll end up adding to the clutter.

Fool Yourself (or get others to do it)

Well, why not? Mirrors, glass walls and other tricks in interior designing can very well create the illusion of airy and spacious rooms. A few tweaks in design can go a long way! Have fun with colours- contrast stark white walls with bright furniture or vice versa to fit your space.
