I have to agree. The key point you identify is that politics will trump economics. If you are trying to build something, like the Euro, the economics will find you out. But if you don’t care about economic damage, and there is little threat from the opposition, then party unity can come first.
The Conservative party can clearly survive a long period of low growth a la Italy, which is the more likely result of Brexit than a sharp recession as companies simply fail to invest, when the Labour party has effectively ruled themselves out of serious consideration.
